Across the board in the music industry, the jobs are almost invariably dominated by male faces. It’s obvious. It’s apparent. And it’s not good for the music industry.

But what do you do about it?

For one woman in Houston, it means you start a company. Raychel Harvey, better known as RayTrill, founded a company called Trillvo to “support for female-badassery” in music. The EDM-focused brand and online publication is kicking off their efforts with a charity event called Woman Strong.

The event will feature an all-female lineup of six DJs, drink specials, art, and merch for the new company. All this for an entrance fee of just $6. The event will also double as a fundraiser for the Avon Foundation, whose mission it is to help women around the globe, and has made particular strides in funding breast cancer research and stopping domestic and gender violence.

Harvey spoke to Festival Squad about the importance of event, “This event is taking place because there is a significant lack of recognition for women in the music industry. We see this in a lot of industries but with the music industry it seems to be the most prevalent. Our goal is not to further the divide but to bring attention to the multitude of women that are not only extremely talented but women who haven’t been given the recognition they deserve.”

With a lineup that includes Miko Marie, Angiesliste, Mixtress BB, haunted., DJ Kosko, and Phraze, it’s certainly an event that you cannot miss and for an incredibly important cause.

Women Strong will take place on October 15th, 2017 at Avant Garden Houston. For more info, check out the Facebook event, and learn more about Trillvo at their website.
