The 12th edition of the popular London music festival South West Four is back on track to take place in Clapham Common, in south London, over the August bank holiday this year (that’s the last Monday in August for our American readers).

The festival was momentarily in jeopardy earlier this year. Although the festival’s permit was granted by the Lambeth council, the neighboring Wandsworth Council found standing in Camberwell Magistrates’ Court to try and shut down the festival over potential noise levels.

Thankfully the festival and the Wandsworth Council reached a settlement. South West Four will rearrange its layout to reduce noise levels in the direction of Wandsworth. There are noise monitoring points in Wandsworth that will be used to ensure the festival’s compliance.

Clapham Common without South West Four Festival all over it

The event organizers, Lock N Load, have maintained that this request is highly unusual and that neighborhood support is overwhelmingly on their side, as evidenced by the signatures on a petition they circulated.

That position was supported by the fact that the Wandsworth Council’s actions seem to have been spurred by the persistent action of one particular resident. Nevertheless, it’s likely there were others concerned and it’s good that the festival agreed to certain small concessions for the affected areas.

Also, it’s just one weekend…

Carl Craig, Sven Väth, Loco Dice, Audion, and Sasha are among the acts playing at this year’s South West Four. It will take place on August 26th and 27th. You can find tickets HERE.
