According to their GoFundMe page, this historic Portland theatre has the chance to purchase the building that they’re in, but they can’t do it alone.
The building started in 1927 as a motion picture theater called the Alameda and closed its doors a little over 50 years later in 1978. It wasn’t until 2010 that they brought it back from the dead, renamed it Alberta Rose, and kicked off its new life with live music.
With only 300 seats, it’s certainly not the biggest venue in the area, but it’s had some of the biggest talent in the world walk through its doors. Everyone from Henry Rollins to Paula Cole to Howie Day to Whiskey Shivers have played in at least one of the hundreds of events they put on every year.
Currently (as of June 22nd, 2017), they’ve raised just over $25,000 of their $300k goal. Working with Premier Community Bank, they’ll need to reach their goal by September 1st to make it all happen. So if you want to help the local music scene, secure a forever home for the theater, and just join the ranks of awesome Portlandians—throw’em a few bucks and solidify the Alberta Rose Theatre’s place in the community!
