In times of extreme difficulty and duress, art often becomes a form of expression, of rebellion. For Syrian-Iraqi singer and songwriter Wafia, her most recent pop single “Bodies” could not have a stronger message.
With the inspiration exposed, Bodies quickly transforms from pop anthem to a heart-felt outcry:
“Wafia—who was born in the Netherlands to Syrian and Iraqi parents and is now based in Australia—wrote ‘Bodies’ on the day her Syrian family was denied permission to enter Australia amidst the escalating conflict there, while Trump continued to threaten Muslim ban in America.”
Following the single’s success, she has released a music video for the acoustic version of the song featuring co-writer Ben Abraham.
Wafia has also announced her headlining North American tour for early 2018, which will fall directly after the release of her forthcoming EP on Future Classic. Prior to her headlining tour, she will be supporting artist Børns throughout his Europe tour in November. Her tour tickets will be available for purchase beginning April 20th.
