Already looking for Friday night plans? Look no further.
Jason Ross, electronic, progressive trance producer, is coming to Los Angeles to spice your Friday night up with hints of hard hitting beats at Exchange LA.
Before his show, get to know him in our interview with Ross, so you know just what to look for:
You were a local DJ in college at San Diego State University before you got picked up by Above & Beyond’s label. What got you started in music?
I started producing when I was 12 years old. Hearing tracks like ATB’s “Till I Come” back in the day was what gave me that passion for this music. I knew one day I wanted to make dance music of my own.
How was the transition between college and full-time production?
It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Spent 100% of my time learning music theory, music production, and all the technical aspects of the craft. Instead of studying for tests and hanging with friends, I worked on music and fine-tuned my sound.
How would you say your production process has changed since signing to Anjunabeats?
I’ve definitely bounced ideas around with producers on the label, but I don’t think my process has really changed since signing.
You’ve said in previous interviews your favorite artists span from Phish to Muse to Sigur Ros. Do you have a favorite genre outside of EDM that you enjoy? Would you say you listen to them the same amount as electronic?
I don’t have a favorite genre, that’s why all my favorite artists are so different from each other; they all have a unique sound that’s true to them. I always try to give myself a break from dance music and listen to stuff outside of it; always good to give your ears and mind a break.
Do you have a dream collaboration?
Sigur Ros would be amazing. Jonsi has an incredible voice.
Do you have a song of the summer?
Above & Beyond’s “Tightrope.”
Any up and coming artists you’re excited about?
Spencer Brown and Will K.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
If I’m not traveling, I’m going on runs, eating well, and hitting the gym. I also love exploring LA; you never get bored of the city.
What’s in store for 2017? New music? New tours?
Prepping for the big #ABGT250 and with that comes new music, of course. Will be announcing some new tour dates as well, so keep a look out!
Do you have any advice to up-and-coming artists trying to make it?
There are no shortcuts. It all comes down to making good music and having fun doing it.
And last but not least… favorite late-nnight eats spot?
In-N-Out for sure.
It’s not too late to see Jason Ross in person this week at Exchange LA.
