Starting in January, the large performing arts space will undergo its very first renovation since opening in 1964. The plan will expand pedestrian access to the plaza in the center as well as add more features like restaurants to make the area more welcoming and accessible to everyday passersby.
The part of the plan that is causing the most discussion among L.A. residents though is the plan to move the “Peace on Earth” sculpture that currently sits in the middle of the plaza in the fountain. It will be relocated to the western edge of the plaza.
Although many long-time Angelenos are feeling nostalgic about the sculpture, there’s a specific reason the statue is being moved and it’s one that most concert-lovers can get behind. The moving of the statue will essentially be creating a large open space in the plaza… perfect for concerts and other outdoor performances.
Maybe soon you’ll be attending more performances at The Music Center. And not just the indoor type.
