The mid-to-late-’00s were heady days on the internet. It was finally sophisticated enough that it could handle worldwide traffic, user-friendly enough that most people could figure out how to use it, but obscure enough that not everybody quite realized how to harness its power.
From that era sprung some of the weirdest, wackiest, but most creative things the internet has ever seen. One of those was blog house. Blogs that just released great house music in hopes of getting ranked on Hype Machine’s hot list. From this era alone, you got albums like Crystal Castles’ debut, Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork, Justice’s Cross, Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colors, Boys Noize’s Oi Oi Oi, MSTRKRFT’s The Looks, and many more.
Nowadays, the internet is certainly sleeker and even more accessible. We have things like Soundcloud, Spotify, and music on YouTube (legally). The internet though is much more corporate. Companies and advertising drive a lot of the internet now. We’ll probably never recapture that era. But – we can celebrate it!
L’Affaire Musicale & Orlove Entertainment are bringing you back a decade with D.A.N.C.E: A Blog Haus Night, their monthly series/residency at The Echoplex. Riots, Eli Glad, Flying Horse and Maikol play the tunes of Justice, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo, Vitalic Official, Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem, Breakbot, and much, much more at The Echoplex in LA.
